Blues and barbecue go hand-in-hand, and both comfortably coexist at this jovial, smoke-scented neighborhood pit that’s been on the scene since 1994 and featured multiple times on the Food Network.
Sporting an old-style diner vibe with checkered floors, mint green, and exposed brick walls filled with photos of famous musicians, it offers live music every night of the week. Known for melding Kansas City, Memphis, and Carolina styles, its slow-cooked apple, hickory, and cherrywood-smoked meats are zapped with one of three housemade sauces—tangy, ketchup-based Original, molasses-tinged Sweet and Smoky, or vinegar-zapped Mustard. Can’t get enough? Grab a bottle to go. From pulled pork and chicken to three kinds of ribs, everything tastes better with made-from-scratch sweet potato fries, slaw, or pit-smoked beans on the side. A rotating selection of import and domestic microbrews are a popular way to wash it all down.
